The Student Employment Center of Resident Life

  • The Student Employment Center is a free, centralized service for students seeking on-campus employment within the Department of Resident Life. The SEC maintains jobs descriptions of all the student positions for which the Department hires. Hourly paid positions include, but are not limited to, Desk Receptionist, Community Assistant, Clerical Assistant, and Information Assistant.
  • Positions are available for both residents and non-residents. They may be standard paid, work-study if a student has such funds designated from Financial Aid, and workship. In the case of workship positions, a portion of the housing costs are remitted in exchange for specified work hours completed by the end of the term.
  • Recruitment and interviewing for Resident Assistants, leaders who serve 40 - 60 students in floors, suites, or apartments, occurs once each year, with applications available mid-September and a deadline for returning them set for the first week of October. Decisions regarding candidates take place throughout the fall, with hired and alternate candidates taking a class in the spring semester to prepare for the position.
  • Information regarding Graduate Assistantships with the Department of Resident Life is maintained through this office, as well. Persons who are interested in Assistantships may call the SEC and leave a name, mailing address and phone number, along with the anticipated program and semester of initial study. Information is sent out in mid-December for the following academic year, and applications are generally due around February 15.
  • The Student Employment Center is located in Room 0102 Cecil Hall. Applications for hourly paid positions may be obtained daily from 8:30 am to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. In order to meet with a staff member or to ask for more specific information, please call 314-5111.
