   Inter-Institutional Registration

Undergraduate and graduate students have the opportunity to take courses at other University of Maryland System Institutions to augment their degree program at the Univeristy of Maryland under the Concurrent Inter-Institutional Registration program. Students may take courses at the systems schools listed below provided they meet the requirements noted. Also see ROTC for program and location options.

System Institutions Include:

  • Bowie State University
  • University of Baltimore
  • Coppin State College
  • University of Maryland at Baltimore
  • Frostburg State University
  • University of Maryland, Baltimore County
  • Salisbury State University
  • University of Maryland, College Park
  • Towson University
  • University of Maryland Eastern Shore
  • Note that Inter-Institutional Concurrent Registration is not available at University College for College Park students.

    Program Requirements:

    • Univeristy of Maryland, College Park is referred to as the home institution. The host institution is the school the College Park student is planning to visit. Note that enrollment in courses is on a space available basis and visiting students are expected to meet prerequisites or other criteria set by the host institution. Tuition and fees are paid at the home institution, however, fees at the host institution associated with special courses may be assessed. To participate in the Inter-Institutional Concurrent Registration Program College Park students must:

    a. have sophomore standing

    b. be in good academic standing

    c. be enrolled full-time in a degree program at College Park for the semester in which the course(s) are taken. Full-time status is defined as a combination of credits registered for at College Park, and the registered credits at the host institution.

    d. have the approval from their dean for the course to count as resident credit

    e. comply with the host institution's registration procedures and deadlines

    Registration Procedures:

      1. Obtain an Inter-Institutional Registration form from the Special Programs Coordinator in Room 1113 Mitchell Building.

      2. Complete form and have course(s) approved by your college dean.

      3. Return form to Special Programs Coordinator for verification and approval. Retain a copy of the approval form for registration at the host institution. The Special Programs Coordinator can provide registration information about other University of Maryland System institutions.

      4. Contact the program coordinator/registrar at the host institution to inquire about and arrange for registration. Registration will be according to the host institution's policies and deadlines. Special permits, parking or other fees at the host institution are the responsibility of the student.

      5. Upon completion of the course the host institution will forward an official transcript to the home institution reflection the grade(s) earned in the course(s) taken there. The College Park Registrars Office will post the grade(s) to the student's record. A notation that course(s) were taken as part of the Inter-Institutional program, and where the course(s) were taken will appear on the transcript. Course grades will be calculated in the student's grade point average and academic totals at College Park.
