College of Arts and Humanities Requirements: Students must demonstrate proficiency in a foreign language in one of the following ways.

1. Successful completion of level 4 in one language in high school.
2. Successful completion of an intermediate level language course.
3. Successful completion of a language placement examination in one of the campus language departments offering such examinations.

Philip Merrill College of Journalism Requirement. Completion of two courses at a minimum, with at least one course at the intermediate level and no more than one course at the introductory level. (High School equivalency does not satisfy this requirement.) Students may opt for a quantitative reasoning track in lieu of the language skills requirement.
