The Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area includes:

Students enrolled in these institutions can attend certain classes at
other campuses and have the credit considered "resident" credit
at their own school. Payment of tuition* for courses is made at the student's
home campus. Any eligible degree seeking graduate or undergraduate student
can participate in this program with the exception of the following:
*participation in Consortium courses may result in additional tuition and fees.
- Golden ID students are not eligible to enroll in courses through
the Consortium with waiver of fees.
- Neither the faculty and staff tuition remission program (this includes
assistantships, fellowships, etc.) nor the partial tuition waiver program
for spouses and dependent of University of Maryland employees may be used
for courses taken through the Consortium.
- Continuing Education courses cannot be taken through the Consortium.
Students whose fees are remitted through these programs and who are
interested in enrolling in courses a Consortium schools will be expected
to pay for the course(s) at the appropriate College Park credit hours rate
for the semester in which they enroll.
A. Procedures for University of Maryland, College Park
Students
Eligible Graduate Students
- Must be degree seeking
- Need approval of the Department Director of Graduate Studies
- No more than 25% of course credits may be taken at other Consortium
schools.
- Practica, internships, workshops and similar experiential learning
courses cannot be taken at other Consortium schools.
- Comparable courses offered at College Park may not be taken through
the Consortium.
Eligible Undergraduate Students
- Must be degree seeking
- Must have junior standing (60 credits). (There is an exception to
this for courses in Army and Navy ROTC programs)
- Prior written approval is needed from:
- The student's major department
- The comparable College Park department if the course is outside the
major department
- The student's dean
- Practica, internships, workshops and similar experiential learning
courses cannot be taken at other Consortium schools.
- Comparable courses offered at College Park may not be taken through
the Consortium. The intention is to allow students to take an occasional
course to augment a program rather than to develop an individual program.
Registration Procedures for University of Maryland, College Park
Students
- Contact the department offering the course at the institution you'll
be visiting to determine if the course is open to Consortium students and
if there are any special requirements (prerequisites, special fees, etc.).
Special fees must be paid directly to the visited institution.
- Courses taken for credit through the Consortium program in the student's
final thirty hours must have prior approval from the student's college
dean.
- Contact the Consortium Coordinator, Room 1113 Mitchell Building,
dcconsortium@umd.edu, 314-8239 to obtain "Permission to Enroll in the Consortium Program"
form. Complete one form for each institution in which you plan to take
courses. Pass/Fail and audit grading options are not permitted for Consortium
courses.
- Acquire appropriate approvals and signatures on the "Permission
to Enroll..." form and return it to Consortium Coordinator. Note that
permission will not be given if a comparable course is offered at College
Park.
- A Consortium Registration form will be filled out with the Consortium
Coordinator. A copy of this form will be used as an identification card
at the visited institution.
- Show identification card (registration form copy) to the instructor
of the course to confirm enrollment, but keep the card.
- If the course is canceled, dropped or changed, contact
the Consortium Coordinator immediately.
- University of Maryland schedule adjustment deadlines apply for College
Park students visiting other Consortium institutions.
- Grades earned by College Park students at other Consortium institutions
in courses taken through the Consortium program will be converted into
the College Park grading system. These grades are used in the calculation
of the cumulative grade point average.
- Consortium courses will be included in the semester credit load
of 12 hours for financial aid purposes.
- Only a maximum of 16 credits of ROTC course work may be applied
toward a College Park degree.
B. Procedures for Visiting Students
- Students from other Consortium schools may register for University
of Maryland, College Park courses on a space available basis beginning
with the first day of classes for the semester. Visiting Consortium students
are not eligible to register for Instructional Television courses, professional
education courses or Continuing Education courses, or courses offered at off campus locations.
- Students will be expected to meet all prerequisites of College Park
courses. Also, prior approval will be required for courses restricted to
special College Park majors and permission only courses. See individual

listings for course restriction information. Visiting students must
register at both their home campus and at College Park.
- Contact the College Park Consortium Coordinator, Room 1113 Mitchell
Building, dcconsortium@umd.edu, 301-314-8239.
- Complete a Schedule Request form with desired courses. A visiting
student cannot audit any College Park courses.
- Present the third copy of the Consortium registration form completed
by your home campus to the College Park Consortium Coordinator.
- The coordinator will officially register you for the University of
Maryland, College Park courses on the first day of classes for the term. Please keep copies of the Schedule Request/Schedule
Adjustment form for your records.
- If the course is canceled, or if you change or drop the course,
contact the Consortium Coordinators at both the visiting campus and your
home campus immediately.
